Weight Loss Motivation – Acknowledging the Wounded Soul
When it comes to weight loss motivation, the oftentimes unspoken and seemingly overlooked thing involves the wounded condition of the overweight individual. I learned this firsthand during my pilgrimage through physical suffering. You cannot separate the truth about yourself while believing in redemption about your spirit, then turnaround and have a blind disregard about your body. It is a struggle to see the truth about who you are and what you are becoming when you are in a place of profound pain. This is exactly what happened to me when I slowly, but steadily, gained fifty pounds following my neck injuries. I used to blame my weight gain on medications, inactivity, metabolic confusion, physical pain, and much more. Although each of these contributed to an overweight predicament; in the long run, these simply proved to be distractions from the core of my brokenness.
The more I opened up to the prospect of being healed, including what was even beyond my physical pain, the more I discovered how deep my wounds really were. At first, I felt fragmented. It seemed like I didn’t know how to know anymore. Though I was a health professional, I was also overwhelmed by how I arrived at this discouraging place. Contemplative thinking and prayer opened my perspective about the world inside me. I could finally see the attachment between deeper anguish and morbid obesity. My journey towards maximizing my health was not really focused on losing the extra pounds, even though my body craved to return to its original factory specifications. More so, it was about a walk of faith, becoming a living sacrifice to God. The challenges ahead of me were to actually live out the changes I needed to make instead of mentally justifying an unhealthy state of being. What I discovered when progressing forward was that my renewed spirit was far greater than any sizeable shape of suffering.
Weight Loss Motivation – Driving for Change and Renewal
To begin the process of change through weight loss motivation, I started out just as I was. I did not try to alter the facts about what I looked like or how I felt, or did I attempt to soften the work of what needed to be done. Starting out by taking incremental steps for the better, I never wavered from the vision of how my body was to look and who God was molding me to become, even when that meant that I was improving in smaller changes than what I initially wanted. Like many reputable weight loss programs purport, I incorporated similar healthy principles into my way of living. Some of these included diet and exercise. But the larger, more significant part of the changeover occurred through spiritual renewal. I felt like I moved from an old, heavy and beaten down nature to a new, thinner version of how God really views us.
