Ways to Lose Weight – Behaviorial
Behavioral Considerations
Are you looking for ways to lose weight? If I can lose weight as a chronic pain sufferer, so can you! I challenge you to sober-minded thinking about your body and its purpose for your life. It is estimated that nearly 70 percent of the U.S. population will be overweight in 2009. You don’t have to be part of these despairing statistics. Here are some motivational points of reference, as I started my journey to lifelong weight management.
Where to Start?
- Don’t wait to get started. When you’re looking for ways to lose weight, the old cliché, “there is no better time than the present,” rings true. Now is the time to have your body and its life-giving systems to respond to healthier ways of living. If you start today, you will not gain more weight tomorrow. Make and maintain the commitment.
- Make a One-time Decision. The body and soul are constantly battling against each other.
By soul, I am referring to your mind, emotions and will. You don’t want to waffle back and forth about your decision to live a better life. In order to accomplish long-term change, you must make a solid agreement between your mind and body to quit the fight against weight loss and lifelong health promotion. In simple terms – Train your body, don’t let your body train you. - Establish a Baseline. Before you make any major dietary alterations, especially if you are
obese or present with high risk of disease, contact your physician for a comprehensive physical examination, including blood analysis. For example, because of my long-term use of narcotic medication, I required thorough blood analyses and took appropriate medications to regulate imbalanced metabolism and high levels of cholesterol. - Get a Vision. Monroe states, “No man can live beyond his vision.” In other words, you cannot re-shape your body, as well as your lifestyle, without some type of vision. Simply put, your vision gives you a snapshot about how you discover your dreams, find your purpose, and lastly, fulfill the “doing part” of getting restored health. Through the weight loss process, even if you stumble, do not doubt the expected outcomes – the more you walk in your vision, the more likely you will obtain your desired results.
- You Set the Trend. Be a trailblazer about making the change for the better. The tendency to compare is a great trap in the fitness world, when much in our culture tempts you to think that if you only were someone else – better looking, thinner, more beautiful, more prosperous, more powerful – you would be much happier. This is not who you really are or why you were created. Think of yourself as an original. Do not compare yourself to anyone else or to any worldly impressions.
- Be Honest with Yourself. In all likelihood, you will need to make some behavioral changes in all areas of your life in order to accomplish successful weight management. Relative to how you eat, how you live, how you deal with stress, how you think, how you rest, how you grow spiritually, and how much you do, in terms work and physical activity, you will probably require some very careful planning and precise behavior modification.
