Regardless of how one suffers or navigates through adversity, the road is eerily the same, filled with unexpected challenges and oftentimes, unspeakable dramas. The reason I am showing you an illustrated version of my injuries is simply to let you know that I most likely relate to you, specifically if you’re experiencing pain, and I understand well the potentially devastating consequences of chronic suffering.
About fifteen years ago I sustained permanent neck injuries due to several reasons. While it is easy to attribute the most obvious causes to impactful forces from an automobile accident, I’ve also pondered on other possibilities, such as having too many neck surgeries, just as one example. Nevertheless, I found when I held onto the details about how pain entered into my life and then when I questioned why it had not left; the harder it was to move forward in forgiveness. Inevitably I knew it was more important to explore the deeper meanings behind suffering from a different perspective.

There is another way to think about painful experiences. Even though I still cope with pain, I see my story as highlights of victory over adversity, conversion from old ways of thinking to new, and from worldly bondage to freedom. Instead of fighting pain and its unwelcome invitation, I’ve let go of all the reasons to be angrily bitter and simply have learned to live my life well, regardless of limitations.
