How can I motivate myself to lose weight?
When truly considering how to successfully lose weight, here are two motivating tips to consider:
- Get rid of false pretenses.
One day I had an epiphany from God. All of a sudden I saw the reality of what had happened to me over time. I actually saw the damage created by being overweight. Have you ever had this similar observation? It was like having blindness, then finally being able to see again. It was a very sobering moment. No longer could I profess spiritual healing to others, especially when I couldn’t see any light shining from my own physical being. All I could see was aged skin, blood-shot eyes, puffy checks, droopy lips and an oversized double chin. I was afraid to look at myself below the neckline. I already knew what to expect. The signs of resignation were clear. My body had given up on any hope for recovery. I knew that I had lived in some form of denial to cope with everything against me. I was literally feeding my false self – that part of me which upheld a mental image of self-acceptance and seemed to know everything about everything. It was time to choose rightful living, no matter how I looked or what I had to do to make healthy changes. - Believe immediate change happens.
Regardless of how far backwards you have slipped with your life, do not base your ability to change on the discouraging disadvantages of your circumstances. It was Henry David Thoreau who said, “Things do not change; we change.” Many life coach experts purport that you and you only are responsible for change. While I understand the need for personal accountability, I also recognize that your beliefs must be rooted in something greater than yourself. With this kind of help, any change becomes possible.For me, that meant I had to fully trust God to lose weight, even if I had to still live with some level of pain. I couldn’t make any more excuses. I couldn’t wait for the pain to be healed before getting started with weight loss. In order for change to happen, I relinquished old, cricked habits, and just simply started to do something about being fat. I needed my body and it life-giving systems to react to some healthier ways of living. I had to finally connect the dots between my mind, body and soul with an honest, full inspection of whom I was, who God is, and the purpose for better living.
